Poitras was adopted and raised by a Catholic German Canadian widow. She is a Cree painter and printmaker. She obtained a BFA from Yale in painting and printmaking, as well completing her graduate studies at Columbia University. Poitras continues working as a noted microbiologist. Jane is a human of heart and is deeply spiritual. Poitras currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada). Most significantly, she was awarded with the highest of recognitions from Canada in 2017, the Order Of Canada. This web designer was given an opportunity to introduce herself, as well as meet in person with Poitras on Friday, November 1st, 2024 at the Missoula Art Museum. Jane spent about one hour or so with me, speaking and introducing me to her inner circle, including other notable artists that flew/drove hours to visit with her, such as Sean Chandler (shown above)(https:/-contemporaryartfellowship.eiteljorg.org/sean-chandler/). Poitras is a gifted artist. Her exhibit at MAM is deeply moving. It is truly a one of a kind visual language experience.
